Marshall R. Lurtz

Marshall Lurtz is the principal of Lurtz Legal. Mr. Lurtz focuses his practice on labor and employment law. Mr. Lurtz provides a unique perspective and winning strategy having prosecuted and defended numerous individual, class and representative employment actions. He regularly handles multi-party complex and class action litigation throughout the State of California, including the infamous Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) and other labor and employment law claims. Mr. Lurtz has and continues to produce extraordinary results for his clients.

Mr. Lurtz brings specific expertise to matters involving wage-and-hour class and PAGA actions involving claims for unpaid minimum and overtime wages, failure to provide meal and rest periods, improper wage statements, reimbursement of business expenses, regular rate of pay issues and misclassification of employees. Mr. Lurtz also handles claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination. Additionally, Mr. Lurtz conducts workplace investigations and compliance audits associated with the forgoing claims to provide prompt and detailed analyses with facts, evidence and potential exposure while apprising his clients of early resolution strategies. Mr. Lurtz further prepares employment handbooks and updates employment policies, including policies associated with arbitration.

Mr. Lurtz represents clients in both state and federal court as well as before state and federal agencies, such as the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH). 

Mr. Lurtz received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Kansas. During this time he also studied Political Theory and German at the University of Bonn, Germany. Mr. Lurtz received his J.D. degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he graduated with Honors. While in law school, Mr. Lurtz was an Editor for the Thomas Jefferson Law Review and externed for Hon. Joseph N. Camacho in the Superior Court of the Northern Mariana Islands. Mr. Lurtz also received a scholarship to study both Private and Public International Law in Pristina, Kosovo.

When not practicing, Mr. Lurtz enjoys long-distance running, reading, traveling and golfing. He also enjoys spending quality time with family and friends
